Obvious Good Outcomes
Input: $ARGUMENTS
Purpose
People systematically under-notice good outcomes. Negativity bias, risk-focus, and problem-solving orientation mean obvious upsides get skipped. This skill corrects that.
Step 1: STATE THE SITUATION
What is being analyzed?
SUBJECT: [one sentence]
Step 2: OBVIOUS GOOD OUTCOME SCAN
For each category, identify what good thing is obviously true or obviously likely:
A. Already Happening
- What is already going well that nobody is acknowledging?
- What positive trend is already underway?
- What resource or advantage already exists?
B. Direct Positive Consequences
- What is the most obvious benefit of this action/plan/situation?
- What good outcome is so likely itโs being taken for granted?
- Who obviously benefits? How much?
C. Downstream Positives
- What good thing does this make possible next?
- What doors does this open?
- What learning or capability is gained regardless of outcome?
D. Compared to Alternatives
- How is this obviously better than doing nothing?
- How is this obviously better than the main alternative?
- What would be obviously worse, and how far are we from that?
E. Hidden Upsides
- What positive side effect is nobody talking about?
- What skill, relationship, or asset is being built as a byproduct?
- What option value is being created?
Step 3: OUTPUT
OBVIOUS GOOD OUTCOMES:
Already happening:
- [good thing in progress]
Direct benefits:
- [obvious positive result]
Downstream positives:
- [what this enables]
Hidden upsides:
- [unnoticed positive]
Most overlooked good outcome: [the one most likely being ignored]
Implication: [what recognizing these changes about the analysis]
